Nepal Bank Limited – NBL (Nepali: नेपाल बैंक लिमिटेड), the first bank of Nepal holds the distinction of marking the formal beginning of the banking system in Nepal. Nepal Bank Limited was established under the Nepal Bank Act 1937 on Kartik 30, 1994 (November 15, 1937 AD) as the first bank in Nepal. The bank was established with an authorized capital of Rs 10 million, issued capital of Rs 2.5 million, and paid-up capital of Rs 0.842 million. The share of government and private sector was 60% and 40% respectively.
